Criteria 4 – Excellent (25 %) 3 – Good (19 %) 2 – Fair (13 %) 1 – Poor (6 %)
1. Creativity & Design • Layout and visuals are highly original and engaging—effectively reflect Southern identity and cultural aspect.• Media (images, audio, video, interactive elements) are used in innovative ways that strengthen the message.• Design choices (color, typography, navigation) feel cohesive and memorable. • Layout is attractive and appropriate to topic, with some original elements.• Media choices are relevant and support content, though not always novel.• Design is generally consistent; minor areas could be more polished. • Layout and visuals are somewhat generic; limited evidence of original thought.• Media choices (if any) are relevant but minimal or not fully integrated.• Design is inconsistent (e.g., mismatched fonts or colors). • Layout is disorganized or overly simplistic.• Little to no use of images/media, or media detracts from content.• Design choices impede readability or distract from message.
2. Language Use • Language is virtually error-free (grammar, spelling, punctuation).• Vocabulary is rich and precise, reflecting cultural nuance.• Tone/register perfectly suits a public-facing blog/website (authentic, engaging). • Few minor errors; they do not interfere with readability.• Vocabulary is varied and largely appropriate, with occasional lapses.• Tone/register is appropriate, though may occasionally feel formal or informal. • Noticeable language errors (grammar, spelling) that sometimes slow comprehension.• Vocabulary is basic or occasionally misused; limited cultural nuance.• Tone/register is inconsistent (e.g., shifts unexpectedly). • Frequent language errors hinder understanding.• Vocabulary is overly simple or inaccurate; cultural terms may be misused.• Tone/register is inappropriate for intended audience (e.g., too casual or stilted).
3. Topic Relevance • Research focus is deeply connected to a specific Southern cultural aspect (e.g., music, foodways, language variety, rituals).• Demonstrates original insights about identity of the South.• Content goes beyond surface-level facts—shows clear understanding of why this cultural aspect matters. • Research focus is clearly Southern and relevant; some strong insights.• Content covers key facts and shows why the topic contributes to Southern identity.• A few deeper reflections, though not consistently sustained. • Topic is identified as Southern but treatment is somewhat superficial.• Covers basic facts but lacks depth—few connections to broader identity.• May rely on generalizations rather than specific examples. • Topic is only tangentially related to Southern identity or misidentified.• Minimal or inaccurate research; fails to establish relevance.• No clear connection between chosen aspect and larger notion of “South.”
4. Coherence & Cohesion • Ideas flow logically—from introduction to conclusion—making it easy to follow.• Transitions between sections (e.g., text to media, one paragraph to next) are seamless.• Headings/subheadings (if used) clearly organize content; each section builds upon the last. • Overall logical flow, though a few transitions could be smoother.• Sections are generally well organized; minor lapses in ordering of ideas.• Headings/subheadings are used but may not always match content perfectly. • Some logical gaps or jumps in ideas; reader occasionally must reread to understand.• Organization is uneven—some sections lack clear focus or progression.• Headings/subheadings (if present) are inconsistent or unclear. • Content is disjointed; little-to-no logical progression.• Reader struggles to see how sections relate to one another.• No headings/subheadings or ones provided do not correspond to content.
