This course is designed to provide students with practice in oral skills by means of meaningful activities that will allow students the opportunity to face authentic materials for the development of English. Students have a high intermediate level of English and are expected to achieve an advanced level in the use of oral skills in English. The tasks students develop are intended for the achievement of critical thinking skills as well as production skills that help the improvement of listening and speaking in close to real communication practice.

The course is designed to provide student-teachers with more specific skills regarding evaluation, assessment, and test construction. This course complements previous courses related to L2 methodology, and SLA, and focuses on enabling students to deal with terminology in the field of assessment and clarify the ambiguity related to the issue. The course is also concerned with the design of instruments to appropriately assess foreign language skills integratively, according to the current trends in L2 teaching/learning. The course also examines policies that influence assessment, specifically the role of standards in assessment and teaching, and evaluates Colombian standards comparing them to those from other countries and continents.
