The course provides pre-service teachers with more specific teaching skills. The precedent course focused on the main theoretical framework of TESOL and classroom observation, which allow future L2 teachers to understand core aspects of their profession. This course establishes the foundations for practicum, encompassing preparation for real-life teaching and a variety of hands-on tasks which give pre-service teachers confidence to face their responsibilities and cater for the learning needs of varied audiences. The skills include planning, implementing lessons, making the most out of the available materials and teaching conditions, addressing discipline in real-life courses and continued teacher development. The development of these skills will be supported by the assistantship process that pre-service teachers will conduct this semester.

Este curso busca brindar al estudiante herramientas prácticas de docencia como diseño de syllabus, planes de clase y materiales que los preparen para la práctica docente.

The course is designed to provide future foreign language teachers with an overview of the most important foundations related to foreign language teaching at all levels. In addition, some relevant issues in teaching the four skills to audiences from different ages will also be addressed. The theoretical background analyzed in this course will be the basis for practical decisions that future student-teachers will make regarding pedagogical choices considering teaching conditions, availability of resources and the goals of teaching and learning. It must be noted that even though classes are conducted in English and the selected texts are in English (due to the fact that they are the most up to date), the ideas and pedagogical practices discussed in class apply to the teaching of any foreign language.
