This course provides a deeper understanding of questions around second language acquisition and learning by critically evaluating theoretical perspectives, empirical methodologies, and discoveries in the research on this field. The course covers various aspects, including characteristics of language learners and their learning processes (e.g., age, crosslinguistic influences), individual factors influencing language development (e.g., motivation, aptitude), and social dimensions (e.g., identity, community). Students will be encouraged to thoughtfully reflect on their personal experiences as language learners and/or their involvement in relevant professional roles. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to foster independence as emerging researchers by conducting their own study on a subject of language learning that captivates their interest.

El curso es una materia electiva dirigida a estudiantes de lenguas con el fin de prepararlos en el manejo de lengua sino especialmente en contextos interculturales.

This course aims to guide future foreign language teachers to explore key concepts, theories, and controversies within the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). The knowledge previously acquired of psychological aspects of language learning will facilitate the analysis of advances in SLA in the last two decades, and the issues that influence the acquisition of a second language. The course intends to serve as a theoretical and practical guide for future language teachers so that they can analyze the nature of second language acquisition theories.
